Location: Rushlake Green, East Sussex
ACCRBS LTD recently undertook a delicate restoration of a historic Inglenook chimney that had suffered leaking and deterioration over many years. By carefully dismantling and rebuilding the stack brick by brick, we preserved its original character while ensuring long-term waterproof performance.
Location: Private residence, East Sussex
Duration: 2 days
Challenge: Decades of water ingress from improperly installed lead trays had compromised the chimney’s integrity and threatened the homeowner’s log-burner installation beneath.
Dismantling & Brick Cleaning
• Carefully removed each brick by hand to avoid damage
• Cleaned and sorted salvaged bricks for reuse
Lime-Mortar Rebuild
• Reconstructed the chimney using a traditional lime mortar mix for breathability and authenticity
• Ensured proper bonding and strength without trapping moisture
New Lead Trays & Flashings
• Installed code-5 lead trays, fully welded into place to channel rainwater safely away
• Fitted new lead flashings around the crown and abutments, finished with patination oil for corrosion protection
Final Pointing
• Tool-finished mortar joints to match the original “bucket-handle” style
• Applied a clear StormGuard waterproofer to seal the masonry against future moisture
Heritage-Sensitive: Maintained the chimney’s historic look using original materials and traditional techniques
Watertight Guarantee: New leadwork and waterproofer deliver decades of protection
Quality Assurance: Backed by our 10-year, insurance-backed workmanship warranty
